Over time, all marketing strategies result in shitty clickthrough rates...it’s important to work hard to get to the next marketing channel while it’s uncontested.
- Andrew Chen, Andreessen Horowitz

Problem

Every strategy plateaus, and exploring new ones consumes valuable internal resources. But standing still is not an option.

Solution

Engage an external expert who will rapidly assesses your current strategies and validate new approaches, ensuring your team can focus on keeping your business growing.
What I do

Go-to-Market Services

I run parallel to your team in hyper-focused phases until we isolate customer acquisition strategies that are worth investing in.

Frameworks, not templates, are used throughout the process and AI tools accelerate ideation and iteration until additional resources are warranted.

Performance is evaluated solely in the context of progress towards an agreed upon, measurable goal.

Deliverables

Enable me to see the business as you do and I'll fill in the rest of the picture with data, insights, and tactical experiments to drive go-to-market strategies.

How it works

There is no silver bullet - we will apply a disciplined approach to methodically learn where there is opportunity in the market.
Step 1: Framing - I “peek under the hood” and we set goals together

Step 2: Synthesis - Data & insights are synthesized into an opportunity report

Step 3: Collaboration - We review our opportunities, refine assumptions, and brainstorm new strategies

Step 4: Scoping - I take our favorite 2-3 strategies and scope experiments testable in 4-6 weeks

Step 5: Action - You decide whether your team will execute the experiments, or whether I will
Your involvement*:

  1. Executive buy in for a measurable goal (ex. next milestone, revenue target, etc.)
  2. A “peek under the hood”, either autonomously or supervised, to build an objective view of your business (ex. CRM reports, product analytics, financials over time, etc.)
  3. A direct path to customer & product insights (the voice of the customer is critical in understanding current state)

*the process is meant to minimize meetings and have hyper focus on action, but we can adjust your team’s involvement as needed or preferred

Phases 2 - n

Execute Go-to-Market Experiments

As a natural continuation of the Customer Acquisition Scorecard, the next step is to execute the experiments to test new channel strategies. This is where generalist execution trumps specialty - we're aiming for objective signal as quickly as possible.

Experiments are run until a winning strategy emerges, at which point we focus all energy on iteration and further refinement.

I will bring in or help vet experts, as needed, to ensure proper optimization for a strategy that is worth additional resources.

Who I am

A bit about me

I might not pass the internet "sniff test" for consultants - no big following, no FAANG experience, no content strategy for credibility signals, and a zig zag of work experience.

Truthfully, I've spent the last decade trying to develop a startup founder "super power". I went deep in different business functions, found any excuse to sponge from experts, and it turns out... I don't need one.

My biggest strength is filling the role that is most needed and being disciplined enough to move on to the next one.

Plug me in when you need immediate ownership towards a goal or when leadership is needed to develop a new one.
About me

My Approach

Picture

Think with a Beginner's Mind

I come in with an empty slate, to avoid biases or preconceptions. What's been done in the past is best balanced by a thoughtful interrogation of what is.
Picture

Fast Experiments

Use frameworks, not templates. Do what doesn't scale. Test and iterate. Be ruthless about results. Break things.
Picture

Double Down

When something works, double down. Add resources boldly, but with stops in mind. Embrace the mighty brains of others to build better/faster/stronger.
